Hello, I'm Nigel! For the last two years, I studied full-time at Indiana University Bloomington before graduating this May with my Master's in Data Science.
I was born and raised in Mystic, Connecticut, a quintessential New England shoreline town. Mystic has both a wide variety of natural & man-made landscapes, and a heavy influx of tourists (and traffic) each summer. I grew up as a stereotypical "math kid", but living here also made me interested in topics like language, culture, and environment. When I left the coast to attend the University of Connecticut, I found a home in Geography, where I could engage with all of these at once. I graduated as an Honors Scholar with a major concentration in GIS, as well as dual minors in Mathematics & Sustainable Community Food Systems.
After graduating, I worked in local government, helping to directly improve the same shoreline community I grew up in. Eventually, though, I was inspired to return to my quantitative roots and go back to school to pursue my Master's. IU provided a stellar curriculum for me to learn the hard technical & analytical skills needed in a data-focused career, while still emphasizing the qualitative aspects of data science and helping me foster passions for design & visualization. As I return to the workforce, I am excited by the prospect of combining all of these tools and interests in a diverse & dynamic career.
