About Me
Hello, I'm Nigel! I'm currently a Master's student studying Data Science at Indiana University Bloomington.

I was born and raised in Mystic, Connecticut, a quintessentially-New England shoreline town. Mystic has both a wide variety of natural & man-made landscapes within a short distance, and a heavy influx of tourists (and traffic) every summer. I started out as a stereotypical "math kid", but living here made me just as interested in topics like language & culture, transportation, and conservation. When I moved away from the coast to attend the University of Connecticut, I started out as a Statistics major, but eventually found a home in Geography where I could combine all of these interests, and apply the quantitative skills I had learned toward them. On top of my major coursework & Honors projects, I also obtained dual minors in Mathematics and Sustainable Community Food Systems.

After graduating, I worked in local government, using what I had learned to help improve the same shoreline community that I grew up in. Although I appreciated the analytical aspects of the job, especially when it came to interpreting & drafting new versions of the regulations for the the town I served, I still felt something missing without anything truly data-focused. I eventually realized I enjoyed both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of what I did, and it was that thought that led me to take on Data Science for my Master's degree. Indiana University provided an excellent curriculum for me to focus on both at the same time, while also providing the opportunity to experience living in a different part of the US. I found a new love for data visualization, design, and writing in the process, and I now seek to combine my newly bolstered data skillset with my existing subject knowledge wherever I can.
